The Strolling Survival Guide - How to Keep Bub Happy & Safe on Long Walks

There is nothing better than taking your baby out in a stroller on a warm and sunny day, so that both mum and bub can soak up the fresh air and soak up the scenery of the wondrous new world that your baby has only just started to notice around them. When heading out for a stroll with your baby, it is key that you can ensure your child’s happiness and safety, and as a new mother, you may be a little nervous when it comes to doing so. In this article we will look at how you can keep bub happy and safe on long walks, so read on to find out more.

1. Check The Weather Forecast

Having a weather application on your phone can assist you in figuring out which day is best for a walk with your little one. The last thing you want to happen is for it to start pouring whilst you’re on your walk with your baby. This is why it is so crucial that you plan your walks around the weather forecast. Avoid walking on balmy, scorching days as well as those foggy, icy and rainy days. Always make sure that your baby is wearing weather appropriate clothing as well, to keep him or her as comfortable as possible throughout the walk.

2. Bring A Few Toys Along

The great thing about a stroller is that you have the space and luxury of chucking a few of baby’s favourite toys in for them to hold or play with during your long walk. Having a few of your child’s favourite toys (or perhaps even a blanket) is a great way to keep your baby calm and happy for the entire duration of your journey. With that said, avoid bringing too many toys as that may cause unnecessary stress should you lose a toy or two.

3. Get Down With The Dirty

One of they key things to take note of is that you should always change your baby’s diaper prior to your walk. The last thing you want is for baby to have to endure sitting in a soiled nappy for the entire duration of your walk. The fresher the diaper, the higher the chance you’ll have a scream-free day out with your child. Always remember to bring an extra diaper if you think your walk may take longer than an hour or so. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

4. Pack Some Snacks

There is nothing more stressful than a screaming baby who is demanding that they be fed immediately. Avoid this stress by packing some snacks for your baby (and yourself as well!) before you head out for your stroll. Aside from some healthy snacks, don’t forget to bring something along for your baby to drink. A well fed and watered baby is a happy baby!

5. Bust Those Tunes Out

We are sure that you’ve noticed how lullabies or soothing music has the ability to calm a screaming baby down. Why not bring some music along with you on the walk? Aside from having sweet tunes to keep you company, you’ll be able to stream some music for your baby should she or he start getting a little crank along the way. Never underestimate the power of music when it comes to soothing a child.
